All classes are taught at the school facility located at 202 W. LeBlanc Street in Erath. The facility is located within walking distance of Erath High School and Erath Middle School. Full-day courses are taught on weekends, school holidays and summers from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm the first three days of the session and 8:30 am to 3:00 pm on the final day of class. After school sessions are also available during the fall and spring. These sessions are taught over a 3 week period from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm three days per week. Visit the school's schedule of upcoming classes for more information.
Yes. Students are required to attend all 30 hours of classroom instruction. Certificates cannot be awarded until all course requirements are met. Makeup classes are not available unless serious medical emergencies arise. Please ensure that a student is available to attend all training sessions prior to enrolling.
Students are allowed to reschedule one time if notification is given at least 1 week before the start date of the class. Contact the school as soon as you know the student cannot attend a scheduled course.
The most important thing to bring is a rested mind and body. An 8 hour training day is long and we have so much information to teach our students--we need them alert. Additionally, $10 cash if the student wants to purchase the slide presentation booklet to take notes in during class. Additionally $10 cash for the textbook if the student wants to utilize a printed Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide. If the Driver's Guide book is in the same shape as when the student received it at the end of the course, they may return the book for a full $10 refund. Please note that the Driver's Guide is available online for the students to review. The slide presentations will also be made available for review during the time frame of the class. Neither is required for class, but the slide presentation booklet would be very beneficial for note taking and studying.
Yes, students are welcome to bring snacks, drinks and lunch. Parents may also arrange to have food brought in during their lunch break. There are no stores or food places close enough for students to walk and purchase food. Information on available snacks at the school will be emailed after registration for a course.
As per State guidelines, students are required to complete all in-class assignments with a minimum score of 80%, pass the knowledge test at the end of the classroom training with a minimum score of 80%, and pass the behind-the-wheel training portion with a minimum score of 70.
Students are scheduled according to the date the classroom course was taken and then their birthdate. Students available drive times will be reviewed and a schedule will be presented to the student either on the last day of instruction or will be texted to the parent and the student within a week of completing the classroom instruction. Teen students must drive within 4 months of completing the classroom training and adults must drive within 3 months of completing the classroom training.
BTW driving for teens will be scheduled on weekends, school holidays/summer and after school. Drive times on weekends and holidays/summer will be scheduled between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm. Drive times after school will be scheduled between 3:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Drive sessions for most students will consist of 2 hour drives and a 4 hour drive.
BTW driving for adults will be scheduled to accommodate the student's school/work schedule and will consist of 2 and/or 4 hour drives.
Classroom sessions will follow the lead of the Vermilion Parish School Board. If public schools are cancelled due to inclement weather, driver's education classroom training will also be cancelled.
BTW driving sessions will depend on the severity of the weather. Unless traction and/or visibility are so poor that we would not be able to teach the normal objectives, BTW sessions will not be cancelled. Drivers must adapt to driving in all weather conditions and need to know what to do in inclement weather as well as on sunny days. Because of this, we do still give lessons in most weather conditions.
